Winner of CAF men's award 2024 announced

Ademola Lookman, the Nigerian forward currently playing for Atalanta, has been named the 2024 African Footballer of the Year by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Lookman had an outstanding year, notably scoring a hat-trick in Atalanta's Europa League final victory against Bayer Leverkusen in May. He also played a pivotal role in Nigeria's journey to the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) final, contributing three goals during the tournament. In the previous season, he netted 17 goals for Atalanta and has already scored 11 times in the current campaign.

Expressing his gratitude, Lookman stated, "This award is a blessing; to be recognised as the best player in Africa is something incredible." He encouraged others to persevere through challenges, saying, "Don't let your failures stop your dreams."

Lookman becomes the seventh Nigerian to receive this prestigious award, following in the footsteps of players like Nwankwo Kanu, Emmanuel Amunike, and last year's winner, Victor Osimhen.

In the women's category, Zambia's Barbra Banda was named African Women's Player of the Year for her significant contributions to Orlando Pride's NWSL Championship victory.
