FIFA suspends African country and two other nations from 2026 world cup
FIFA has suspended the Football Association of the Republic of Congo (FECOFOOT) and the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) from participating in international competitions. The suspension of FECOFOOT is due to third-party interference in its affairs, violating FIFA's statutes. This decision was made in consultation with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) after joint FIFA/CAF missions to Brazzaville. The suspension will be lifted once conditions are met, including the return of full control of facilities to FECOFOOT.
The PFF was suspended for failing to adopt a revised constitution that ensures fair and democratic elections. The PFF had previously been suspended in 2017 and 2021 due to third-party interference, with the most recent suspension lifted in June 2022. The current suspension will be lifted once the PFF Congress approves the constitution version presented by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation.
These suspensions mean that both Congo Republic and Pakistan are currently barred from participating in international football activities, including the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
