Victor Boniface retires from international football

Nigerian international footballer Victor Boniface has hinted at his retirement from international football with the Super Eagles. This comes after Nigeria's 1-1 draw against Russia in an international friendly in Moscow on Friday, June 6, 2025.

Boniface, who was substituted in the second half of the game, posted a message on his official Instagram page stating, "Proud to play for my country and a dream for me also. Really enjoyed every moment the good and the bad. Thanks a lot. Thank you All. I don hang boot."

While "I don hang boot" in Nigerian parlance typically signifies retirement, Boniface later deleted the post and shared a meme, leading to speculation that his initial announcement might have been a joke or a reaction to frustration over his performance and ongoing goal drought for the national team.

At 24 years old, Boniface has earned 13 caps for Nigeria but is yet to score. His deleted post has sparked widespread discussion among fans and football experts regarding his future with the Super Eagles.
