Nigeria Hope For World Cup Gone

Yes — Nigeria’s hope of playing in the 2026 FIFA World Cup is basically over now. 🇳🇬⚽

Recent confirmation from FIFA showed that DR Congo will represent Africa in the inter-confederation playoff tournament, which means Nigeria no longer has a path to qualify.

What happened

Nigeria reached the CAF playoff final but lost to DR Congo on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) later complained to FIFA, saying DR Congo used ineligible players.

Nigeria hoped FIFA might overturn the result and give them the playoff spot.

But FIFA’s latest tournament list still includes DR Congo, not Nigeria.

Result

DR Congo will join teams like Bolivia, Iraq, Jamaica, New Caledonia, and Suriname in the playoff tournament for the last World Cup spots.

Nigeria is not among them, so the Super Eagles will miss the 2026 World Cup in USA, Canada, and Mexico.

⚠️ If nothing changes officially, this means Nigeria will miss back-to-back World Cups (2022 and 2026) — something that hasn’t happened since they first qualified in 1994.

✅ The focus now will likely shift to:

AFCON 2027

rebuilding the team and qualifying for World Cup 2030
