Walid Regragui Quits As Morocco Coach Just Months Before World Cup

ðŸ‡²ðŸ‡¦ Shock Exit Just Months Before World Cup

Walid Regragui has officially stepped down as head coach of the Morocco national football team with less than 100 days to go before the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Canada, and Mexico.

The 50‑year‑old, who guided Morocco to a historic World Cup semi‑final in 2022, said the team needed “a fresh face, a different energy and a new perspective” ahead of the tournament.

His departure comes after Morocco narrowly lost the Africa Cup of Nations final earlier this year, and followed weeks of speculation about his future.

The Royal Moroccan Football Federation named Mohamed Ouahbi — who led the U‑20 team to a World Cup win — as his successor.

This marks a dramatic change for the Atlas Lions just three months before kick‑off and raises questions about their World Cup readiness — particularly with group ties against Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti still to prepare for.
